January 1, 2027 — contingent reporting change

If CMS finalizes the proposed 2027 maternity G-codes, UnitedHealthcare says commercial providers should report those G-codes. If CMS does not, dates of service on or after January 1, 2027 leave global obstetric reporting: 2026 services stay on CPT 2026, including 59425, 59426, or an E/M code, and 2027 antepartum and postpartum services use an E/M code, modifier TH, and an obstetric diagnosis. UnitedHealthcare says it may revise this if the final CMS rule differs. This does not replace the current global-package policy for dates before 2027.
Services on or before December 31, 2026 stay on CPT 2026, including 59425, 59426, or an E/M code. The 2027 path is phase-based reporting only if CMS does not finalize the proposed G-codes.
The current global-package policy still applies for dates before 2027. The October 2026 bulletin does not replace it for those dates.
