2027 Substrate Maternity Resource Center

Global billing for maternity is ending.

Today, maternity care is largely billed using a "global" code. Beginning January 1, 2027, CPT revisions will allow care to be reported more granularly at the service level. January 1 is the CPT effective date, but each payer might choose to transition billing on their own timeline.

Transition: No 2027 transition or grace period located in the cited current policy unless stated in the billing summary.

Global billing: Follow Maryland Medicaid unbundled/separate-delivery rules; do not apply CareFirst commercial global obstetrical payment policies.

The plan-specific Medicaid manual requires H1000 for the prenatal risk assessment and allows H1003 for enriched maternity services. Do not treat CareFirst commercial Chapter 9, Medical Policy 4.01.006A, or PP CO 080.01 as controlling this product.
